The images advertised only show what are the best parts of the facility. (I am going into immense detail as visitors were not allowed in the patients' rooms, only the smoking area/basketball court with some plastic chairs and a few outside thermoplastic-coated round picnic tables with umbrellas for an hour). While the staff I interacted with in my ward were lovely during the afternoon shift, others tended to react to patients with some level of apathy or frustration (understandble in that environment but not calming for any patients undergoing a 72 hour or more hold). We were checked in on hourly. The rooms we were introduced to in our "not aggressive/physically violent ward" (comprised of patients possessing depression, alchoholism, drug addiction, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc.,) had three beds per room made of a matress and light disposable sheets as well as a pillow and a disposable pillow case which provided minimal warmth against the air conditioned vents. We each had a small shelf next to our beds (slightly shorter than our bedframes) where we could put notebooks that we had given to us, our introductory packets, writing implements, etc., That ward was mixed gender, with am alternating arrangement of a male room and a female room from the lobby to the recreational room where lessons would be held ranging from coloring and drawing (yes, this was the adult ward) to worksheets and sharing OR, during our allotted freetime, we had access to the television, an array of books from a small shelf (including bibles), board games, and notebooks to draw or write in. We were given four meals (breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper) that if you were on "level one" which you'd be on if it was your first day, missed your medication, hadn't gotten your heartrate measured, or you hadn't attended all of your lessons you would have to be given in that room. Specialized food needs WERE accounted for, within reason. (Allergies, vegetarians, etc.,) If you were "level two", garnered by attending all your lessons, taking all of your medication as perscribed, and general good behavior, you were given a ticket and were allowed to cross from the ward to a lunch court via a short sidewalk inside the facility, while being monitored, where you could have options as for food. On my final night and the next morning, due to my being a "docile patient" and the rooms in the aforementioned ward being full and needing space, I was moved to the eating disorder ward on the other side of the lobby. THESE are the rooms you see in the pictures. Well made beds with high headboards, a bunch of sheets, only two large beds with a writing desk each and a pinboard above those desks, storage on the headboard and below the bed as well as in wardrobes, and a smiliar (yet higher quality) restroom that didn't close due to safety reasons but had a shower, sink, toilet, and mirror (no possibilty of sharp objects to cause self harm with). While different patients were treated differently, the lack of transparency in photos advertising the location makes it seem like the wards in the facility all possessed the same quality of comfort and care. To reassure on other points, the staff did care, were attentive for the most part, food was regularly given, we were monitored as far as health and wellness, set to a regular schedule of waking up and going to sleep, checked our things we entered the facility with to make sure we were safe from potentially harming ourselves, allowed us our own clothing (if there were no safety concerns with the garments), and tried to answer any questions we had. There were ways to improve compared to other hospitals but for what it DID possess, it certainly served its purpose.

I was here for 13 days and I connected so much with some of the staff... others I would stay away from like John and other idiots. I met my girlfriend here and her and I are still together and I made friendships that are still lasting. The staff changed me and the people who I was around changed me. I am greatful and thankful for all the staff who were there for me and who made me happy.

i am gonna give praise to this place cause they where there when i needed them. i initially went to marina del rey emergency room hospital for suicidal ideation. got sent to this place they kept me for 4 days in adult unit 2. they feed you meals daily you can shower when you want in the room and they give you clothing if you need it out of a donation box. classes are held where you talk abut your feelings and they give you plenty of meds. i did feel "doped up" during my stay but i think it was helpful only because of the level of depression and suicidial feelings i was feeling... no phones are allowed during your stay. and for me personally they referred me out to a place for housing since i did not have any housing so that was a plus.

Im a 24 yr old female who just got out today. I'm so grateful for this place because it did help me realize a lot of things in my life. Life is precious and your not alone in there. I bonded with many people, i understood them, and i emotionally felt them. And because of what they we're going through i knew i wasnt alone on this but i love these people. I felt really close to them and i love all of them. It hurt me a lot to leave them and i will never forget their faces and the precious moment i had with them. The staff we're helpful and nice to me so they did an excellent job. I would love to create a place like this and help those out there and i will. Whatever it takes.. I WILL DO IT. Overall, i came out of this place a changed women who from now on will be positive and who loves herself. Thank you BHC.

This place was quite the experience. I loved the staff and the therapists there were immensely helpful. Being on level two on my second day, thus giving me access to the cafeteria and other activities they had for level two were nice. Cafeteria food wasn't excellent but it was good. Eating what I wanted and and how much was a great privilege. Two things I wasn't so fond of but there were things that had it's alternatives - I didn't like that gym time was in a room. It gets hot very fast and easily. I liked that they had patio/smoke break every two hours - it starts at 6am and ends at 10pm. Depending on what staff member giving the break - it can last to 10 minutes up to 20 minutes. Most patients there would smoke but it was nice to have the space divided to non smoking area to smoking area. I would have enjoyed maybe an hour of art but only had 30 minutes of it. They aren't so strict on patients cleaning up after themselves but they do remind us every day. If you have a problem with roommates they try their best to fix the problem. Some patients there come off very rude and they feel they are entitled to demand than ask so treat them with respect and they will do the same. I loved how the rooms had windows instead of just a wall with a painting. I enjoyed waking up with the sunshine in my face and it helped me wake up on time for breakfast. Regardless if I had a parking lot to stare at occasionally while reading my book in the day time - it was nice to see the world go by instead of guessing and then finding out what it looks like when I can go to a patio break. I did complain a few times to the staff about patients there for being a bit offensive or just out right perverted and by the next day they transferred those patients. If you want to have a good experience here, utilize it well. Uncomfortable with something? Ask to see what the staff can do. It's up to you to have a comfortable stay - Sometimes the staff can be a little short handed with people but they do what they can and I see that. You are a guest so treat everything with respect. Wendy, Steven, King, and Nicolas are very chill and respectful. Though, like I said, most of the staff are very helpful. Even the cool rockabilly janitor was freaking awesome and had time to wish me luck, and say goodbye. Thank you Alhambra Behavioral Healthcare Center! I will be one of those people who will come back but only to donate clothes and books! Oh! and my doctor was Dr. Bavshar, I think that's how you spell it. He is a wonderful, chill Doctor. I know a lot of patients had him but didn't seem to ask the right questions or they were aggressive. Ask the questions you have, take in the information, be respectful, and don't look so damn eager to leave. You're there for help and that's what they offer. If you're constantly asking to leave they're not going to give you that satisfaction. You're just showing them that you need to stay there longer. Accept why you're there and just relax. I was here involuntary and I stayed from April 1st at 1:15pm to April 5th at 11:30am. ALSO, if they're giving you meds before you see your doctor - you CAN refuse until then. Don't be stupid, you have your rights to say no and they give you all the patients rights in booklets when you first get there.

I went here twice and both times were great. The only problem I really had was the disrespectful people who got in. They didn't care that people were there for treatment.
